This week felt like a balance between quiet reflection on the page and a surge of energy in real life. In my writing, I closed out a series of reflections on designing a life in three dimensions, inspired by Shigehiro Oishi’s work and shaped by my own experiences moving between Japan and the United States. It was less about conclusions and more about naming patterns I’ve lived for a long time, especially how meaning, pleasure, and psychological richness intersect in cross-cultural work and life. Writing it helped clarify why this way of living and working continues to matter so much to me, and why I feel drawn to supporting others who are navigating similar complexity. I also wrote about attending JWIBA’s International Women’s Day workshop, Confident in Your Future. What stayed with me wasn’t any single insight, but the atmosphere of the room. Women at different stages of life thinking seriously, and generously, about what comes next. It was a reminder that confidence is often rebuilt collectively, through conversation and encouragement, rather than through directives or policies. And then there was a much lighter post, prompted by my ongoing tabi sock habit. A small, everyday joy, but one that says a lot about Japanese design sensibilities and the care given to even the most ordinary objects. It felt good to end the week’s writing on that note. Alongside all of this, I spent time at the GLOBIS G1 conference at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay. That experience really defined the week for me. The energy in the room was invigorating, thoughtful, and quietly confident. The conversations felt forward-looking without being abstract, rooted in a belief that Japan is entering a new phase. Being there made it hard not to feel that a new Golden Age is already taking shape, driven by leaders willing to think long-term and engage deeply with the world. I’ll share more specific reflections on the conference next week. For now, I wanted to capture the feeling it left me with. Weeks like this remind me how reflection and engagement feed each other. Writing helps me make sense of experience, and being in spaces like G1 renews my sense of why these conversations matter in the first place. Warmly,
