This week has been a beautiful blend of nostalgia, cultural celebration, and unexpected joy. I started off in Nashville, where I reunited with a friend I’ve known since middle school, someone who was my pen pal when I was first learning English. Sitting together after all these years, swapping stories and memories, reminded me how the relationships we form early in life can shape our paths in profound ways. It was a heartwarming reminder of the power of enduring friendship and the importance of making time for those who’ve helped us grow. Back in San Francisco, I had the pleasure of attending Sliders & Sake, a lively event hosted by Morrison Foerster during SF Tech Week. The evening was a celebration of Japanese culture, community, and cuisine with delicious bites, flowing sake, and vibrant conversations. I was especially excited to meet the new Japanese consul and connect with others who share a passion for cross-cultural exchange. Events like these are more than just networking, they’re moments where shared values and curiosity spark new ideas and friendships. And then there was the gachapon machine. Yes, the capsule toy dispenser made an appearance at the event, adding a playful twist to the evening. I gave my capsule to someone I met whose children are fans of gachapon, and it turned into a sweet moment of connection. It’s funny how something so small can bring joy and bridge generations. From heartfelt reunions in Tennessee to sake-fueled conversations in California, this week reminded me that connection comes in many forms: through food, friendship, and even tiny plastic toys.
