This week has been a whirlwind of insights and inspiration from both sides of the Pacific. I’ve been reflecting on how much we can learn from Japan’s elementary classrooms, where six-year-olds clean their own schools, serve lunch to classmates, and take real ownership of their shared spaces. It’s a reminder that leadership and teamwork start early, and that some of the best management lessons come from the most unexpected places. I’ve also been thinking a lot about the importance of hiring the right local HR staff when expanding globally.Having culturally fluent HR professionals can make all the difference in a global environment. It’s not just about filling a role, it’s about building a bridge. Speaking of bridges, I’ve also been energized by the wave of Japanese innovation making its way to Silicon Valley. From mentoring sessions to pitch events, I’ve had the chance to meet some truly bold and brilliant founders. Their ideas are fresh, their passion is contagious, and their global ambitions are real. It’s an exciting time to be part of this cross-border ecosystem. And just for fun, did you know Japan has a thriving manhole cover art scene? I took a closer look at how cities across the country are turning infrastructure into public art, and it’s a delightful reminder that creativity can live anywhere, even underfoot. Last night, I attended a Japan Society event where Jake Adelstein introduced his latest book, The Devil Takes Bitcoin. It was a fascinating evening full of sharp insights and unexpected twists.
