This week’s posts ended up connecting in that very “Japan way” where small moments, old lessons and unexpected discoveries quietly fit together. None of these things happened in the same week, of course, but writing about them now brought back the same sense of slowing down and paying attention that Japan always evokes for me. On Monday I shared a story from Engaku‑ji, where a simple stop at the temple gift shop turned into a tiny cascade of teachings. A noren with a message that felt like it was written directly for me, and an introduction to the fact that omamori apparently expire and can release the bad luck they’ve absorbed. I am now on a mission to locate every forgotten charm in my home before they revolt. Japan has a talent for teaching mindfulness in practical, slightly mischievous ways. Midweek I shifted into something more work‑related: why language training still matters, even with AI everywhere. Facilitating Business English sessions for Japanese expats reminded me that communication is still a profoundly human skill. AI can translate the words, but it cannot explain tone, nuance or why something lands differently in global meetings. These small group sessions continue to show me how much people benefit simply from a safe, human space to practice. And then Friday brought a lighter discovery, which is becoming a weekly pattern on its own. Costco surprised me again, this time with a megabag of bunny‑shaped KitKats I’ve never even seen in Japan. Sixty‑five tiny chocolate bunnies, which appealed directly to both my Belgian chocolate wiring and my deep appreciation for Japan’s seasonal snack genius. It was silly, joyful and exactly the kind of Fun Friday energy I like to end the week with. Writing these posts reminded me how much I enjoy looking back at these moments, whether they’re thoughtful, practical or delightfully ridiculous. Japan weaves all of those elements together so effortlessly, and revisiting them feels grounding in its own way. Warmly,
