This was a week of quiet reflection and connection. If you’ve ever lived abroad, you’ll recognize that unique feeling of being in between versions of yourself. You might find yourself nostalgic for the person you were in the place you just left, while not yet fully immersed in who you’re becoming in your new home. Reading A Good Place to Leave a Lover brought me right back to that emotional space. These thoughtful stories wrapped me in a warm nostalgic blanket, and I highly recommend taking the time to read them. This week also marks the eightieth year of peace between Japan and the United States, my former and current homes. The bell-ringing ceremony I joined was deeply moving, and I’ll be sharing more about it in my next Mindful Monday article. I’m always amazed at the things I learn, and the connections it reveals between the places I love. This week, that was also an action movie!
