My 🇯🇵 husband loves to cook ... lucky me!

This does mean that we regularly drive out 40 minutes or more for Japanese shopping, as many of the ingredients he uses (and craves) are not available closer to home.

While I'm definitely not complaining about the time we spend getting Japanese groceries, I do long for the days I could just walk down the street and spend a fraction of what we do today! Imported stuff is always expensive, alas.

While we do need our Japanese grocery for dry foods like noodles and rice or specific condiments, we've also discovered the farmer's markets for fresh produce. And if we can venture out to the City (as SF is called here), some stalls have wonderful leafy greens like those on top of daikon (I pickle that!) or fresh herbs like mizuna and shiso leaves.

I guess for us shopping has turned into entertainment rather than quickly putting the necessary in a shopping basket, it's become part of being a bit more mindful of what we eat as well.

Where do you do your shopping?
