When doing your best is not good enough
There is something I keep seeing across many of the teams I work with.
People are capable.
People are committed.
People genuinely want to make things work.
And still, something feels harder than it should.
Decisions take longer than expected.
Good ideas lose momentum.
Strong hires don’t stay as long as hoped.
Not because people are not trying. But because they are often working from different assumptions about what “good” looks like.
What surprised me early in my work was how often these gaps show up in very practical moments:
When a hiring decision takes longer than the candidate expects
When onboarding feels detailed, but still unclear
When a meeting feels productive on one side, and frustrating on the other
Each moment is small on its own.
But over time, they shape how people experience the organization.
This is something we have been talking about a lot recently with Quick USA as well.
From their perspective, they see how fast the U.S. talent market is moving and how expectations are evolving.
From our side at JCO, we see how deeply rooted many of the existing approaches are, and how much value they still bring.
The question is not which side is right.
The question is:
How do you make both sides work together in practice, day to day?
And that is where things become interesting.
Because it is not about completely changing systems.
It is often about small shifts in how expectations are clarified, how decisions are made, and how people communicate.
In our upcoming session, we will explore exactly that.
Not from a theoretical perspective, but through real situations we see in companies with Japanese DNA operating in the U.S.
Where things tend to get stuck.
What starts to unlock progress.
And what actually helps teams move forward together.
