My Family: Nino delivers in this gripping 10-episode drama about child kidnapping.
I’m a longtime fan of Nino (Kazunari Ninomiya) and so when this new series popped up on Hulu just a week or so ago I sat down to watch the first episode. I wasn’t expecting that much, tbh Japanese drama can be hit or miss, but boy this time I had to force myself to stop after 2 episodes a day!
Easy weekend pickling: Yuzu (or lemon) Daikon!
If you read my articles often, you’ll know I love making Tsukemono (Japanese style pickles). Well, I have a new easy favorite one for you to make!
My new favorite drink: Choya Umeshu with honey
As a European, I've always had a soft spot for mead (honey wine), and recently, I stumbled upon a new honeyed drink that has completely won me over: Choya umeshu made with honey! Umeshu is a Japanese plum wine made from ume plums, and Choya is one of the most popular brands out there.
🍙 Take homemade onigiri (rice balls) on your next hike!
I guided a walk last weekend to my favorite place: the Lafayette Reservoir. You can find me there often, as it’s just a 20 minute walk from my door.
Watch if you like it dark(er): Sanctuary (on Netflix)
I watched this series a while ago and I was in 2 minds about sharing it with you because I'm still not sure if I really liked it or not. Compared to the Little Miss Sumo documentary I wrote about a few weeks ago, this is definitely dark(er).
Your next read or listen: There's No Such Thing as an Easy Job by Kikuko Tsumura
I’ve really enjoyed listening to this book, which follows a woman who takes on a series of temporary jobs after suffering a burnout. In spite of asking her job coach for easy assignments and the jobs do look simple at the start they all come with their own quirks and challenges.
