Finally a non-medical drama I like! フクロウと呼ばれた男 (a man called Owl) - translated as 'House of the Owl' on Hulu/Disney+ this time.

This 10-episode first season of “House of the Owl” stars Min Tanaka as a powerful political fixer, or “kuromaku,” who has a troubled relationship with his adult children, particularly an idealistic son played by the single-named Mackenyu (nice eye-candy for sure 😉 ).

What I liked about this drama series:

  • Very easily understandable slow-spoken Japanese

  • Kuromaku and their influence on politics are very real, in fact the director (David Shin) explained that selling the series in Japan would have been impossible which is why he went to Disney+

  • My husband Makoto was intrigued enough to watch it with me!

  • A favorite new expression: "あなたの力を借りたい" - Lend me your strength aka use your influence to do something for me.

Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, so I'm hoping the series will continue!

If you watched it, did you like it? Any other non-medical drama series I should watch?
