Your next 4 Friday nights are set with the 4 Kingdom movies!
At least, that's how we did it 😉
I really liked the Kingdom movie series, based on the popular manga by Yasuhisa Hara. I thought it was interesting to see Japanese movies about ancient China during the Warring States period.
All 4 films bring to life the epic battles, political intrigue, and the relentless pursuit of dreams of the young orphan Shin who is the central character.
Shin dreams of becoming a great general. The stories link his personal growth with historical events in ancient China before it was unified.
We really enjoyed the blend of action, drama and sometimes over-the-top fighting scenes reminiscent of 'Hong Kong movies' like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (think flying jumps etc).
Enter also a nice list of actors including Kento Yamazaki (Shin, also in Golden Kamuy and Alice in Borderland) and Takao Osawa (General Ohki, also in Jin) and you know it's time to bring out the popcorn (well, in our case, the senbei cracker mix 😂 ).
Kingdom 4 ended on a cliffhanger, so I'm hoping Kingdom 5 will come out soon!
Any historical action movies you'd like to share?
