Genki? What’s Up? 15
This week’s Genki? What’s Up? newsletter is all about movement: across borders, cultures, and ideas
I reflect on:
• Becoming a U.S. citizen and what it stirred up about identity and belonging
• Bridging Jinji人事 and U.S. HR: when orders spark more than just fire
• Insights from Northampton, MA on closing gaps in global HR
• And a lighthearted wish for Doraemon’s Doko Demo Doa (Anywhere Door), because after all this travel, teleportation sounds pretty great!

This week brought quiet insights, from peace bells in Cupertino to unexpected lessons in language and culture.
I’ve been reflecting on how small moments can shift our perspective, whether it’s understanding a verb, navigating cross-cultural work, or noticing Japan’s changing job market.
If you’re curious about mindful leadership, HR across borders, or just love a good cultural connection, this week’s newsletter might speak to you. Thanks for reading!

This week reminded me how deeply place and memory intertwine. In moments of quiet reflection, I found myself revisiting the emotional space of living abroad.
I also had the honor of joining a bell-ringing ceremony marking eighty years of peace between Japan and the United States, my former and current homes. It was a moving experience, and I’ll be sharing more about it in my next Mindful Monday article.
And in a delightful twist, even an action movie this week revealed unexpected cultural connections: between Japanese trains and an American bus!

Somehow it’s already August, and this week was packed! Between a heartfelt 送別会, a serendipitous HR networking event, and a hot-off-the-press language learning promo, there’s a lot I wanted to share that didn’t quite fit into this week's blog posts.
If you’re into Japan connections, language tips, or just curious what I’ve been up to, keep reading. And if you’re in the Bay Area, there’s a special event coming up that you might want to join.

The weeks fly by so fast we definitely need the weekend to rest and relax, I'm hoping my weekly musings can help just a little with that. Enjoy!
